How to Create a Cozy Autumn Home Theater with a Projector (Hygge-Inspired Guide)
Ann Marie Bottita | October 2, 2025
As summer begins to wind down and the chilly air of autumn emerges, I am finding myself drawn to cozy indoor nights more and more.
This time of year, I try to embody the Danish concept of Hyyge: cozy aesthetic, being present in the moment, and enjoying the small pleasures of the autumn season.
As someone who loves to be immersed in comfy environments, projectors are a staple in my setup. That might sound surprising, but there's a big reason for it: the light from projectors bounces off the walls, making it softer and indirect; way more comfortable to watch compared to the cool, direct light from TVs.
Plus, there’s just something about the big screen and low light that makes me want to swaddle up and relax under the soft glow of a projector.
In this guide, I’ll share my experience on how to set up the coziest home theater setup with a projector.

1. Set up Ambient Lighting
The first step in any cozy room is to get rid of any beaming overhead lights. In this comfy corner, we are supporters of lamps, candles, fairy lights, and warm lighting.
Once you've found the right amount of ambient light, get your projector set up. If you don't have one already, the amount of light in your room can help determine which projector is best to use for your cozy home theater setup.
For brighter setups, I would recommend the Aurora Pro or Aurora Pro MKII, because when used with a light-rejecting screen, they can still stand out really well.

For low-light cozy setups, you can use the PJ40 or PJ40 Ultra, especially if you are wanting an extra large screen or a budget-friendly setup.

2. Get Comfy
Next, grab your favorite layered blankets and textured throws. Toss in velvet pillow, autumn-scented candles (think cinnamon-clove or apple-cider aromas) for extra seasonal warmth.
Settle in with a steaming cup of apple cider, hot cocoa, tea if you’re a tea enthusiast like me. Tonight, I’m choosing a nice honey chamomile.

3. Pick a Cozy Activity
With a projector, I love to watch my favorite comfort movies: Pride & Prejudice, The Wild Robot, and the 2015 live action remake of Cinderella (to be specific).
Cozy gaming gets elevated to its full relaxing potential with a projector. Animal Crossing is a classic cozy game that works fantastically on the big screen while on a couch or lying in bed.
If you want to spend some time away from your screens, you can set up your projector with some Lo‑Fi autumn ambience instead. Use your projector as a speaker and music visualizer to create a cozy soundtrack while you read.

Some of my favorite ambience channels on YouTube that feature human-made art are: Autumn Cozy, Cosmic Resort, Cozy Rain, and The Relaxing Town.
If you’re looking for some human-made Lo-Fi, I recently found Yellow Cherry Jam, who features beautiful scenery and an adorable dog in their videos!
